Villa’s hopes of Champions League football next season looked all but over after a blip in form but four wins from their last five games has put the club back in contention to break into the top four. Martin O’Neill’s side are currently fifth in the league table, level on points with Tottenham Hotspur but have played a game more than their rivals.

With Joe Hart out on loan to Birmingham City and Stuart Taylor injured, Gunnar Nielsen is expected to make his first start for the club unless City manage to sign a new keeper on loan.
